Gananoque, Ontario
Everyone who drives the main Highway 401 from Toronto to Montreal or Ottawa is greeted by a large Lithuanian double cross near a town of Gananoque, seemingly located in an empty field. This is all that remains of Petras Regina's vision to make Gananoque a major center of Lithuanian culture.
Back in the 1980s, Petras Regina sought to establish a Lithuanian archive and museum, hoping to attract passers-by on the highway. He acquired a land lot in 1985, the first building in 1986, and planned the center to be called Lithuanian Cultural Centre Aukuras, there were plans to build replicas of Lithuania's famous buildings.
In the 1990s, he built several crosses in Gananoque area.
However, eventually, the vision was not realised, and all that remains of it is a single large Lithuanian double cross.
